I was filled with wonder
That a God who ordered the universe
Could author the abstract canvas
that filled my view that autumn day.
A riot of reds, oranges, and yellows
A chaos of contrast and contour and shade
and hues of unnamed pigments
A silent requiem
Framed against the hazy
Thin white smoke of an October sky.
The slow burn of fall
A quiet conflagration
Serving no good purpose
Beyond a transitory delight,
A silent parade of colour
For the creator and the created.
Before the monochrome
Of the coming winter
Where the forest would rest
Until the greening of spring.
Giving us courage
To hope for the same.
A gift of unordered grace.
