The moon was erupting

The moon was erupting

Cold

From the lake tonight

Slowly

Pale light creating shadows

One more time

Exposed remnants of waves

Now just ripples

Glistening as they danced

Toward the shoreline

Where daylight memories

Will fade, lost forever,

Whether I saw them or not.

Swallowed in the night lake

As the moon rose smaller

Drifting though a silky night

Perhaps a harbinger

of what is to come,

perhaps just a memory

of what has been.

And I sat watching

Thinking how little we knew,

And the choice of peace or fear

in not knowing.
