The Fabrics of Fall

Corduroy cornrows

Velvet waving wheat

Tattered cotton hay bales

Muslin dew come morning

Well worn bristly

Straw wool bales

The simple plaid of ploughed fields

Desert khaki of soy

Waiting for harvest

Soft green felt of winter wheat

Rough field fatigues

Jumbled patchwork of

The dormant,

The combined,

The derelict,

Fields and pastures

All sewn together

Haphazard seams of fence row stitching

Under the faded blue denim of an autumn sky

White cloud patches

Leading to a darkening horizon

The so white cotton blanket

waiting to be spread

over the sleeping fields.

A comforter for the winter chill.
