Moonlight sprinkling

The moonlight was sprinkling

Icing sugar on the tops of

the pine trees and edges of cedar boughs

All along the lakeshore

Shadows cascading below

And stretching from the far shore

As the nearly full moon untethered

Floated into view breaking free

From the tangled tree line

And from somewhere across the lake

Was that a wolf howl a cougar’s scream

deep within but close to chill

Carried by a soft breeze stirring

The waters into a vast bowl of glitter

Ripples shimmering, dancing

as we sat on the dock

In the deepening dark

The reflected light of an unseen sun

Softly touching our friendship

A beautiful moment

In a shared uncertainty

Almost too fragile to be real

And yet without question true.
